Duval Asphalt Company-Wide Monthly Development Classes

It’s the start of the new year, and the team at Duval Asphalt welcomed 2024 with a new training program for our leadership team and field and plant personnel. Once a month foremen and other Duval Asphalt team leaders attend Crestcom Leadership Training with Tony Davis. During this time, plant and field personnel participate in personal and professional development classes at Duval Asphalt’s Philips Highway facility.

In January approximately 100 employees dispersed into 5 groups relative to their job functions:

  • Plant and Quality Control Operations
  • Paver Operations
  • Roller Operations
  • Driver Operations
  • Earth Moving Operations

Guest speakers and presenters from Asphalt Testing Solutions & Engineering (ATS), Bomag, Caterpillar, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and Builders Equipment Safety Training facilitated each group. Translators were available in the classes for Duval Asphalt’s Spanish-speaking employees.

Jon Elko from Bomag presented the best care of asphalt pavers, then took the group outside for practical, hands-on application of these practices including paver set up, care, maintenance, and operation.

Mark Halvorsen of Ring Power, representing Caterpillar, presented to his group about the best care for rollers. After a group discussion, the team applied what they learned outside on a tandem vibratory roller.

The drivers operations group went over commercial vehicle and trailer inspections in detail with FHP Sergeant Casey Moore. Following his presentation, the group walked through the yard to review pre-check inspection lists on multiple vehicles. “It was enlightening to understand some laws in the driver class. The instructor was intense and had information that was useful to keep us from getting points on our CDL.” – Duval Asphalt Roll-Off / CDL Driver

Mike Droogsma of Builders Equipment Safety Training shared valuable safety information with his group and reviewed proper care, maintenance, and operation of skid steers, frontend loaders, and graders.

“Friday’s event was very informative, and…this is essential for workers. I give it 5-stars.” – Duval Asphalt Forklift Train-the-Trainer / EZ Street Operator

Duval Asphalt is proud to offer continuing development opportunities for our team members and looks forward to the February event! “Employees were actively engaged, attentive, and enthusiastic during the training.” – John Beaudry, Captive Resource Risk Consultant
