Cox Media Group Radio Hosts Pave on Duval Asphalt’s Paving Crew Following Annual Careathon

The 2022 Child Cancer Fund 8th annual Careathon was bigger and more successful than ever this year! More volunteers, more supporters, more outreach and more dollars donated.

The goal was to raise $300,000. At the end of the 13-hour day, Friday, August 12th, over $285,000 was pledged. Carla Montgomery, Executive Director of the Child Cancer Fund, put in overtime throughout the weekend and her efforts upped the total pledged amount to reach the goal: $300,000!

100% of these dollars raised will go towards helping local families battling pediatric cancer through bill payment assistance, tutoring, mortgage payments, family support group events and more!

Not only that, but this goal had an extra incentive tied to it. The deal was, if $300,000 was raised, 104.5 WOKV News Director and Jacksonville’s Morning New Host, Rich Jones, along with Action News Jax Consumer Advisor & Nationally Syndicated Radio Talk Show Host, Clark Howard, would work on Duval Asphalt’s paving crew for a day.

Recently the bet was paid. Jones and Howard joined a crew and helped pave a parking lot at Duval Asphalt’s West 12th Street Plant location. Camera crews were on site to capture this moment all to benefit a very special cause.

DONATE: Give to the Child Cancer Fund of NE Florida. The Child Cancer Fund will use 100% of all proceeds from Careathon for financial assistance, mortgage payments, family support group events, tutoring and more.

Each year, approximately 115 local families receive a pediatric cancer diagnosis in the NE Florida area. Thanks to the generosity of many in our community, these families will be facing the journey ahead with support and care from untold numbers of donors in our community.
