Duval Asphalt Safety Committee Wraps Up Q1 and Looks to Q2

Duval Asphalt closed out the first quarter with a Safety Committee lunch. In attendance were members from the field crews, maintenance shop, plant operations, office staff and the ATS quality control team. All fifteen committee members were present, so each area and department of the company was represented. In daily operations, each department focuses on its own responsibilities, so the team members tend to work in silos. This meeting facilitated the opportunity for everyone to learn what other departments are facing.

Duval Asphalt Employees Complete Forklift Training Course

Recently over 20 members of Duval Asphalt’s team completed Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) training at the Philips Highway location. Participants were all employees who drive and operate a fork truck on the job.

Rena Deihl joined the Duval Asphalt team in 2020 and is making a big impact at the company! She is a plant operator and works at all three plants in the Jacksonville area. Although she has little experience, she embraces all learning opportunities and has impressed her colleagues.

Applying FAA Asphalt Specification Updates to Fernandina Municipal Airport Job

The newest revision of the Advisory Circle (AC) 150/5370-10H “Standard Specifications for Construction of Airports” was released in December 2018. Duval Asphalt Products, Inc. and Asphalt Testing Solutions & Engineering, LLC (ATS) completed a runway rehabilitation project at Fernandina Municipal Airport where these new revisions were implemented.

Marsha Johnson 1,000th member of Women of Asphalt

ORANGE PARK, Florida —Women of Asphalt® (WofA) is excited to welcome its 1,000th member. On September 16, Marsha Johnson clicked the “join now” button and earned this noteworthy distinction. Since its launch in 2017, WofA has actively grown from its five founding members to the 1,000 plus it has today. By clicking that button, Marsha joined a group of women and men dedicated to mentoring, educating, and advocating for women in the asphalt industry.

Emergency Repair: I-10, west of Hammond

At approximately 5:50 a.m. there was a traffic accident just west of the Hammond Blvd. exit on I-10 eastbound in Duval County, FL that resulted in a fuel and fluid spill, subsequently causing significant damage to the asphalt roadway. FHP immediately closed the two damaged lanes, leaving only one eastbound lane open, until an asphalt contractor could arrive and replace the damaged pavement.
