Meet Reed - Duval Asphalt's Summer Program Intern!

We are proud to introduce Reed, our summer intern at Duval Asphalt! Now in his second year with our internship program, Reed has returned to gain even more hands-on experience – demonstrating both his drive and growing interest in the asphalt industry.

This summer, Reed is learning the full production process of hot mix asphalt (HMA) and the manufacturing of EZ Street Ambient® mix for our valued partner. His training focuses on maintaining consistent material flow and temperatures, closely monitoring plant equipment, and, most importantly, following our established operational safety protocols.

Running a plant efficiently involves a variety of responsibilities, and Reed is gaining a firsthand look at how each role contributes to the operation’s overall success. When asked about what has stood out to him most so far, Reed shared:

“There is a lot more than I expected when it comes to operating a plant. The most important thing is the amount of communication needed for this job. The operators are responsible for staying in touch with the paving foremen, quality control, and the yard crew. All while producing mix and loading out trucks.”
