Emergency Repair Crew fills massive pothole on Orlando’s Interstate 4 in less than one hour!

On July 27, 2010, a giant pothole opened up on Interstate 4, in the heart of Orlando, during the morning rush hour. This pothole, reportedly more than 18 inches in length, caused damage to nearly a dozen vehicles and backed traffic up for several miles. Fortunately, the Florida Department of Transportation in Orlando keeps EZ STREET® cold asphalt on hand for just such an emergency.

Within a short time of the pothole opening up, crews were able to close the westbound lane in question, repair the damaged section of roadway, and re-open the lane to traffic. This quick turn-around would not have been possible without the quick-thinking FDOT officials and the immediate availability of EZ STREET®.

Ready when you are, EZ STREET® is the perfect partner when minutes matter!

Duval Asphalt competes in Jacksonville Grand Prix to benefit Spina Bifida

Duval Asphalt was just one of twenty-two teams that went wheel-to-wheel March 27th at the 8th Annual Jacksonville Grand Prix to Benefit Spina Bifida. Teams pay $1,685 each to race and lap sponsorships are sold to area businesses. In addition to competing, Duval Asphalt was a major sponsor and provided on-site refreshments, netting an additional $1,000 for the cause. Total funds raised by all participants at this year’s event is $12,000.

Spina Bifida is a congenital condition that causes the spine to close improperly during early pregnancy. Jacksonville businessman Rick Mansfield started the go-cart fundraiser for the agency after friend Bill Warner's granddaughter Lindsey was diagnosed with the condition. Money raised at this event is a big boost for the Association and the 100 families it assists. "It will help the families with medical equipment, diapers, activities and any other needs they may have," Spina Bifida Association Executive Director, Maria Quinones said. Children with the condition can suffer weakness and paralysis of the legs and other problems. The agency at Nemours Children's Clinic helps families with needs not handled by insurance, raises money through an annual bowl-a-thon in September and is planning a golf tournament.

Duval Asphalt Supports MS Mud Run Jacksonville

The MS Mud Run Jacksonville is a 10K, military-style obstacle course race, the majority of which is covered in mud.

Duval Asphalt was proud to support this year’s MS Mud Run. What began with three teams of runners and providing our entertainment rig for on-site food and beverage concessions, quickly turned into Duval Asphalt becoming fully engrossed in the planning, construction and support for the 2010 event. In addition to the on-site concessions and teams (which netted more than $5,000 for the cause), Duval Asphalt provided food for over 200 volunteers, assisted with road repair and construction of the 10K obstacle course and constructed and sponsored the Duval Asphalt Pit Fall obstacle. More than $15,000 in food, services and funds raised at this event went directly to the North Florida Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS-NFL).

Duval Asphalt is extremely proud of all of our volunteers and of our three teams: The Duval Asphalt Mudweiser Guys, The Mudweiser Girls, and the River City Mud Snakes, with an extra congratulations going out to the Duval Asphalt Mudweiser Girls for coming in First Place for the Women’s race.

NMSS-NFL’S second annual MS Mud Run Jacksonville was held on March 20, 2010. This year’s event more than tripled in size from 2009. Topping out at 2,800 runners, the 2010 Mud Run raised more than $300,000. The 2009 Mud Run, which was hailed by NMSS-NFL President Jennifer Lee as the most successful fundraiser of last year attracted just over 900 participants and raised approximately $120,000.
